New Flame by BJ Thornton was probably one of the most perfect parts of this anthology. BJ Thornton used Save the Tatas as inspiration for her piece. I absolutely loved this short. Shae is a breast cancer survivor that has had a mastectomy. She is getting a tattoo on her back by the yummy Harley. Both of them try to fight the attraction but after the piece on her back is complete he finally asks her out.
Harley does a great job of bringing Shae out of her protective shell. These two are tasty together and New Flame definitely kicked off the anthology with a bang!
Starstruck by Lisa Sanchez Amberly’s day couldn’t be worse. She’s stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire. But Yay for being rescued by the delicious “T”. Except, something falls from the sky and the two of them go investigate and get zapped. Special powers give this story a different twist that I enjoyed a lot. Add to that a nice sexual tension between Amberly and T and it’s a well rounded, yummy and fun read.
Shackled by Debra Anastasia Aeliea is a princess not so loved by her people. They all live in fear of her; worried about getting thrown in her horrible dungeon. When Markus stands up to her she orders him to be taken to the palace. Aeliea is horrible but Markus makes me swoon. It’s amazing the way she starts to change with him there. He starts to show her she can be a good person. These two are the perfect example of characters that help one another grow into better people. His influence over her just makes me happy sigh. Even in the end, when you think things are going to end badly, he rides in on his white horse. Perfection.
Concessions by Robin DeJarnett Oh oh oh! I so loved this one! It’s a different twist on vampires, all taking place in a movie theater. Who knew vamps loved to go to the movies?? Lindsey works at the concession stand and is intrigued by a patron she sees daily. It’s kind of weird that all of the movie viewers that come in are gothic but she just goes with it. Devon’s mind powers are amazing and fascinating. So much so that I’d like to see some more of him!
Concessions is a little magical, a little exciting and mysterious… and lots of awesome.
Big Guns by Jessica McQuinn Ah Big Guns, how do I love thee? I’m a sucker for a guy in uniform. I’ll just put that out there right now. Dylan is SWAT and oh so lovely. He and his co-workers set up a newbie as a little initiation. Brea goes along with their hilarious plan to embarrass him. A little walk to the nearby pier, a set of handcuffs and a merry-go-round later and the cocky newbie is set straight. I giggled and swooned my way through the whole thing. From what I understand, these characters will appear in a future book(s?) and I can’t wait!
It’s Only Kinky the First Time by Kasi Alexander This short is a little side shot of Kasi’s Becoming Sage. It is the tale of how two of the main characters in that novel met. Jessie is curious about BDSM and goes to a conference to meet a man from an online community she’s joined. She’s never been part of a relationship like he’s proposing so he eases her into things. It was fascinating to learn how they met and ended up together, since I have read Becoming Sage. I’m not sure if I have a preference about which of these I’ve have liked to read first. They both have different vibes. Kasi has a nice flowing writing style and I was caught up in this story quickly. If you’re interested in reading something from someone that has true experience in the lifestyle, I think this would be a great way to get your toes wet.
I really enjoyed the anthology. Several of the stories I wanted more of! Be sure to check it out for some nice summer/beach reading.
